Manager position. This manager will be in charge of the Energy and Minerals
Resource section of the Wyoming Geological Survey and will have several

Description:
The Wyoming State Geological Survey is looking for an individual
with experience in supervising and managing professional geologists and
who is interested in having a satisfying and challenging career with the
State of Wyoming. You will use your skills to manage and lead a team of
geologists responsible for Wyoming's important and significant energy
and mineral resources. The person who holds this position will have the
opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to an agency whose focus
is to promote the understanding and beneficial use of Wyoming's vast
geologic, mineral and energy resources. You will work in a team
environment and within established federal, state and agency best
practices, rules, regulations and guidelines.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

- Supervise and manage geologic staff and multiple programs and initiatives
- Establishes clear roles, responsibilities and goals for assigned staff
- Trains, guides, coaches, mentors and evaluates assigned staff
- Assists with the preparation and monitoring of Survey's budgets, annual reports and strategic plans
- Serves as a member of the Wyoming Geological Survey's Leadership team.
- Manages and responds to requests for information including providing key information, insight and data on mineral and energy resources
- Serves as Survey representative at public meetings
- Within delegated authority, responds to and helps resolve key issues and concerns raised by federal, state and public entities
- Provides input on, interprets and communicates rules and regulations related to critical issues
- Responsible for reviews of initiatives and projects to determine the scope and quality of geologic investigations/work
- Conducts, monitors and reports status and results of investigations and studies. Makes sure projects and initiatives stay on budget and meet key deadlines and objectives
- Proactively evaluates and resolves issues pertaining to Wyoming's energy and mineral resources
- Acts as subject matter expert for the programs being supervised and managed
- Ensures all grant and project reporting requirements are being properly handled
- Provides oversight, plans the type and method of investigations to be conducted and assigns staff and resources to accomplish projects/initiatives
- Manages and reports on work performed by consultants
- Recommends appropriate employee actions based on staff performance
- Establish key contacts in industry and geologic related agencies
- Qualifications
PREFERENCES:
Preference will be given to those candidates with extensive geologic supervisory and management experience
KNOWLEDGE:
- Must possess supervisory, management and leadership skills
- Skilled at inter-personal and formal communications and presentations
- Knowledge of Wyoming's energy and mineral resources
- Strategic planning, project management principles and practices (budgets, schedules, deadlines, etc.)
- Industry experience is a plus
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Education:Bachelor's Degree (in Geology/Geotechnical Engineering)PLUSExperience:3-5 years of progressive work experience in Geology with acquired knowledge at the level of a Senior Project GeologistPLUSCertificates, Licenses, Registrations:Professional Geologist License (PG) or Professional Engineering License (PE)- Necessary Special Requirements
PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Typically, the employee sits at a desk to perform the work; however, there may be some field work, walking, standing, bending, carrying light field equipment and driving an automobile.
